Made from Supplex nylon, probably the most desirable aspect of the hat is that it is very deformable, including the bill. This makes it very easy to carry as it can easily be tucked away in a pocket. The flexibility also means that the hat can be worn in a number of different ways and even used for more purposes than just protecting your head. For example it can be turned inside out and used to collect berries, nuts or whatever.
The hat is fairly durable. I mainly use it for keeping tree sap and such out of my hair during deep brush cutting. It has no suffered any damage from scraping off of various branches. It has been been hit fairly hard and has protected my face a couple of times as the bill has deflected branches from hitting my face.
The material is decently water resistant. I have walked in the rain for
about 30 minutes with a flow of water constant enough to generate a steady
fall of drops from the bill, and my head and neck remained dry. It however
is not waterproof. You cannot for example carry water in it for an extended
distance as it flows out at a fairly steady pace.
