This saw has a 10" long blade with a Japanese-tooth pattern blade. It measures 12" when folded. The blade locks in both the open and closed position. This is item #EC625 and sold for $29.95 (Canadian) from Lee Valley (July 2000).
This saw was only used for a short period of time before the blade snapped in half. While it was aggressive on the pull and cut well, it bound far too readily in woods which lead to frustration and its early demise. Much better performance was seen with the Felco, which was in part due to more experience with japanese saws.
Japanese saws which cut on the pull stroke, unlike western saws are not designed to take a heavy push. Not only will this do little cutting, unless the push is applied very carefully the blade can readily bend, and the steel in japanense saws is not spring tempered to take such forces. The saws can easily be bent or broken.
