Photon lights are very small flashlights that give off a wide field of light of strong intensity and come in a variety of colours for various uses. They are about the size of a quarter, weigh next to nothing, and come with a clip for a few bucks extra that is very handy and allows easy pocketless carry. They can be turned on by pressing on a pad, mainly for pulses, or by flipping a switch.
I bought a white one and it is very useful flashlight, much more than I thought it was going to be. It throws off a wide beam of light and can easily light up a 3m by 3m wall surface from say 2m away. The beam is much more uniform than say a micro Mag-Lite (Solitaire). There is some variation in intensity but you don't get the big dark spot in the middle like the Solitaire, you rather get an overall well lit area containing several really bright rings. It is decently tough I have dropped mine with no problems and have even walked on it several times.
The only downside is that the penetration is much lower than the Solitaire which makes it much better as a spot light. However for use as a signal the Photon is superb as it can be seen from very far away. For general utility work the Photon comes out on top easily and I have stopped carrying the Solitaire. There have been a couple of times I have been very glad to have it on me including when I had to tighten the lugs on a tire at night in the rain. The small size and nonexistent weight make it very easy to always have it on me.
