Basic specifications :
On 3/8" hemp :
This is a bit high and could easily be cut in half with an improved sharpening however it is enough to do a little wood work and check the balance, power and ergonomics.
On carving wood compared to the #1260 Mora on some 1" hardwood dowel with light force (10-30 lbs) :
The Basic does very well here, in the same class as the Mora. This is due to :
The second point is critical because there are a number of issues with the handle in an over hand grip which are of influence when more force is use.
On some 1x0.5" pine making 2" points with heavy force (50-70 lbs) :
With heavier force used the Basic while still ahead of the smaller folders (the edge angle is lower) it doesn't have as much as an advantage because in heavy use the discomfort of an overhand grip become obvious, more on that below. In extended use, making 1000 slices, :
